ACET (AIDS Care Education & Training) Ireland

This Christmas, as with every year, ACET are preparing hampers for the families that we work with, including those who continue to grieve the loss of their children from drug-related issues, those seeking to positively live with HIV today and the children who have been impacted. Each hamper is tailored specifically for each family and is prepared by supporters and volunteers.

The delivery of the hampers is integrated with the overall care plan for the families. Staff and volunteers will be taking the opportunity to discuss expectations for the Christmas period, budgeting, overcoming challenges and anxieties. All of this reflects our values of placing a high importance on relationship, believing that seeking to ‘fix’ the person we work with, particularly when not coming from a place of deep trust, can do much more harm than good.

While the hampers themselves are prepared by our supporters and volunteers there are still additional costs associated with their delivery and so we are looking to fundraise these extra costs. Donations can be made to ACET Ireland, 14-15 Lower O’Connell St., Dublin or via the Paypal link on the right.

We have Christmas cards with a watercolour of Derrycunnihy Church, County Kerry by Dublin artist Pam Bowie, €7.50 for a set of 5 of these luxury cards, with all proceeds going to ACET.

Maureen Gatharia's recently released CD, Magnetic Power, is available now! Copies available from our office (€12.50 incl p&P) or from Footprints Bookstore in Dun Laoghaire. The album is also on iTunes. All proceeds to ACET Ireland.

ACET's 20th anniversary book, Drinking from the Same Cup, is still available! Contact us for your free copy.

“Over the years [I noticed] the compassion and love that was shown to our family by any staff member who has worked with us and the non-judgemental manner in which we were always approached.”

In 1992, with a budget of IR£378 and an answering machine in a back bedroom ACET Ireland was founded. Over the past two decades we have provided practical and emotional care for hundreds affected by HIV in Ireland and have educated and trained tens of thousands on HIV-related issues.
Drinking from the Same Cup is a collection of 20 stories which tell, from a wide range of perspectives, the journey which ACET Ireland has been on over the past 20 years. As the world marks the end of the first generation of the AIDS pandemic our hope is that these stories act as an honest, challenging and inspiring record of one chapter in the response.
